Fire Captain > Traffic Cop Matters of life and death overrule matters of man-made law.

Reminds me a bit of a call I assisted on recently. 8-lane interstate highway interchange, 7-car MVA. The medic in charge of EMS treatment and triage on the scene told the senior police officer on scene that he needed to have traffic lanes shut down to provide us with the safest possible area to work. The officer asked "You expect me to shut down 5 lanes of traffic on an 8-lane highway?" The medic replied "No. I expect you to shut down 6."

I hope that cop got some alone time to figure out why his actions were wrong. And stupid. I have been on scene of a similar event, thought the Asst Chief and the Trooper were going to fist fight over where to park the engine. And we were working accidents on BOTH sides of an undivided 4 lane highway. Trooper wanted to run traffic down the middle!
